You are going to love this new book, folks. David and I are finishing the editing and other work on it now. It’s a wonderful collection of poetry and essays, with one piece of flash fiction. We also found a lovely image of rocks on a beach for the cover. I personally love and admire how well Ann combines dark and light themes. That is, she does not shy away from talking about the tougher aspects of life, as well as beautiful things like family love and the support of a beloved guide dog. It is our pleasure and honor to have such a talented author as Ann Chiappetta among our editing clients.

I am a JAWS user and have not had any problems (although this may be due to me using the old editior). Have you contacted WordPress re this issue? The more people who raise it, the easier it will be (potentially) to get them to look at the accessibility issues. Best wishes – Kevin

Annie, I just started blogging again after a 3-year health-related absence. I was terrified to try the new block editor. I’m having enough trouble with the old editor. I use the WP “Visual” (aka HTML) editor so I can preformat my posts with the codes for headings, italics etc. in MS Word. There are several ways to get to the new post pages, and with Jaws, I’ve noticed that sometimes there is no edit field for the body of the post. I’ve been either just saving the draft with just a subject in it and editing it under View all Drafts, or using the Quick Draft option. I’ve been writing to WP about this stuff for years, and I hope you will write to them about your experience with the new block editor.

I switched back to the classic editor and all is okay now. I think there is a jaws tutorial from Freedom S. about it, too. Hang in there and switch back to the classic.

You can go back to the Classic Editor by installing a plug-in. Go to Plug-ins on your dashboard and search for it. Once it’s installed, you’ll be given the option to use the classic editor.

Weekends are a respite.
Walking the dogs every 2 hours.
Putting my feet up on a hassock while I listed to a CD of an inspiring message.
Sorting through books or doing research for an essay.
Calling my family members and catching up on life with them.
Scrambled eggs with cheese and a bagel.
Opening a package of new books that arrived from Amazon.
Sending out inquires to publishers or sifting through poems to send them.
What else? Whatever the day brings in my little slice of heaven on earth.

By the way, I took my students to the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library today and had them see the library and speak to Chancy Fleet, the Assistive Technology Coordinator. It was great! Chancy came to speak to our last student cohort. Neat stuff. Hope everyoe in the Chiappetta family, is doing well, including Bailey! By the way, our Visions Center on Blindness Director borrowed your Follow Your Dog book, as she wants to learn about guide dog schools, etc. Love, Phyllis

I’m sure that sort of thing goes on more often than we’d like to think. Of course, when we meet someone new, we don’t know that something like this won’t happen. The important thing is to be aware, and when you get negative vibes or something happens, back up. I’m glad your friend who got robbed didn’t hang around.

I just read this post, Ann, and I know that always when the baby eagles are kicked out of the nest, it is so they can fly –
This is your time to begin to fly – to strengthen your wings and to soar to new heights. I am certain of that. It feels terrible and frightening and wrong, at the time, but your unexpected thrust out of the nest is going to be for the higher best in your life plan.
Spread your wings – and SOAR. Don’t look back and don’t look DOWN. Moving on along – that’s you! I am cheering you on.

And this is another reason we have guide dogs and not guide cats. I have yet to meet a cat (including ours) who won’t at least take an experimental lick or nibble. I love cats, but I swear they’re sometimes worse than toddlers.

I agree to the part that for the most times you can see when a dog has formal training for its job, weather it be for guiding, hearing, seizures, etc. Great topic and nicely written.

Raisers truly give our dogs their roots and wings. I like that GEB allows contact with the people who raised our dogs. It is so meaningful to the razors and the dogs. As handers, we are proud of the job that our dogs do. That should be handlers, but I am using dictation.

I enjoyed listing to this Annie. You read you work so well and it was good to hear your interpretations of them. I like your travel-themed poems, such as the SFO trip and the Old Sturbridge remembrances. There is a “listing” that you do so often in poems – like tying to remember things by listing them out loud. Best wishes for lots more great poetry in the future.

Nice post, Annie.
I have some distinct memories of Memorial Day – and mostly, those years were when my family had a picnic at my parent’s home each year. My father was in Europe for 2 years with Patton’s troops – he was drafted and left when I was 2 weeks old.
I think that our memories of this day really form who we are in many ways. Each year in our village graveyard the graves of the dead soldiers are decorated with a beautiful American flag and I love to go to the grave yard where many of my ancestors were buried to see how it all looks with those bright new flags flying in the sunshine. My great-grandfathers monument is at the top of the hill – he was in 10 major battles in the Civil War. There is a part of all those soldiers that remains with us through the years – and we feel it on Memorial Day.
